5 Easy Tips For Designing a Powder Room
Powder Rooms offer the opportunity to get a bit bolder and different with your design choices.
Here are 5 design ideas to try in your powder room that will leave your guests smiling-
1. Paint the ceiling:
The 5th wall, the ceiling must be paid attention to in the powder room. Don't be nervous that painting the ceiling will make the room feel smaller. The reality is the room is small by design and painting the ceiling will add drama and interest to the space. While traditionally you would paint a ceiling in a flat finish, here you should explore high gloss paint finishes, and even metallic finishes.
2. Hang a chandelier
In a powder room, the need for functional light to apply makeup is not a great concern. Wall sconces flanking the mirror and a small chandelier either hanging centered in the room, or directly above the sink/vanity area will look great. Sometimes the smaller sized chandeliers are referred to as 'chandelettes'.
3. Make a sink base out of an antique or old furniture piece
Get creative with what you use for your sink base. In a modern space a pedestal sink may be the right decision. In a less modern space, look in consignment shops, import/export shops and potentially at a dresser to re-purpose into a one of a kind sink base.
4. Hang dramatic artwork on one wall
Find the largest wall in the room other than the one the sink is housed on and use that wall to introduce some great artwork to the space. Unlike in a full bathroom where potential water damage from showers and baths are a concern, in your powder room water damage is not an issue.
5. Wall mount your faucet
Most often the faucet is deck mounted to a sink basin. Wall mount your faucet to free up minimal counter space in your powder room. The height to mount the faucet will be dictated by the sink style; vessel or otherwise.
Don't be afraid to make bold design choices to create your one of a kind powder room!
